When it comes to web design inspiration, there are a lot of places you can go. You can look at other websites, or even other people’s work. If you lack web design inspiration, here are some of my favourite places to get inspired.
Blogs
The internet is full of blogs, and there are many reasons why you should take advantage of their abundance.
First off, finding inspiration on the internet is much easier than it used to be! In 2015 there were an estimated 2 billion users online worldwide. At any given time during that year, close to 7% of the world’s population would have been browsing sites like YouTube or Facebook. Second, bloggers are more willing than ever—and with good reason—to share their mistakes so that others may learn from them as well. In fact, many will highlight what they’ve learned in a post called “lessons learned”, where they’ll talk about things they’d do differently next time around if they had the opportunity again.
Behance and Dribbble (or the blogs of famous designers and artists)
You can find some great design inspiration on the blogs of famous designers and artists. A good example is the blog of designer Eric Meyer, who is known for creating CSS frameworks and writing books about web development.
On Behance and Dribbble, you’ll find thousands of designers showcasing their work. These platforms are also excellent for seeing what others are doing with similar products to yours, so that you can learn from their mistakes as well as their successes.
Social media feeds like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter have great content
You can find designer’s profiles on social media and then look at their work to find inspiration. You can also use a hashtag search or browse through popular design pages.
YouTube has many interesting videos on web design
Since YouTube is a popular website, it makes sense that you can find videos on nearly any topic. If you’re looking for inspiration for your next web design project then there are lots of videos available on YouTube.
There are plenty of different ways to search for web design related content on YouTube. You could enter a general search term like “web design” or “design inspiration.” You could also try searching for specific words and phrases related to web design such as “contemporary site,” or “flat UI.”
If you’re looking for something a bit more focused, why not browse through some of the channels dedicated purely to offering tips on how to make your sites look good?
Aggregator sites such as Awwwards, SiteInspire and The Best Designs
If you’re looking for inspiration, aggregator sites are a good place to start. These sites collect the best designs from all over the world and allow you to see them in one place.
The most influential aggregator sites are Awwwards, SiteInspire and The Best Designs. If you have enough time, these aggregators will keep you up-to-date with new trends and techniques.
